How to Use the Vig / Hold Calculator

Enter the odds for Side A and Side B in any format. The calculator computes:

- Hold % — the sportsbook's percentage margin on this market - Juice % — the raw overround above 100% - Fair Side A and Fair Side B — the prices the line would have if vig were stripped out

Worked example: a standard -110 / -110 spread has an overround of about 1.0476 (52.38% + 52.38%), which is a 4.55% hold. The fair price is 2.0 / 2.0 (50% / 50% true odds) — the book takes 4.55% of total action as their cut.

Use this calculator to shop for the lowest-vig price across books. Reduced-juice markets like -105 / -105 can cut your effective cost in half.

How it works

Every two-way market has two implied probabilities. If they add up to more than 100%, the excess is the sportsbook's margin — the hold.

  3. Read the hold — Hold % is the book's margin. Fair odds show what the line would be with zero juice.

Vig & Hold FAQs

The hold is the book's margin on a market. On a standard -110 / -110 NFL spread, the hold is about 4.55% — meaning the book expects to keep $4.55 of every $100 wagered if action is balanced.

Juice (overround) is the raw amount the implied probabilities exceed 100%. Hold is juice divided by overround — the book's percentage take of total handle. Most operators report hold.

Each book sets its own prices. -105/-105 reduced juice has under 2.5% hold; lopsided markets can have higher hold. Always shop for the lowest-vig price.
